A day in the home
The order stays the same; the pace follows the children.
- 01Early morning
Step 1: Arrival
Each child is handed over at the door. We say good morning in English or in Spanish, hang up the backpack and wash hands.
- 02Mid-morning
Step 2: Play and stories
Floor play for the little ones, play dough and blocks at the long table, then stories and songs in both languages.
- 03Noon
Step 3: Lunch
Lunch at the kitchen table. Wendolyn cooks, and the children help set the table.
- 04Early afternoon
Step 4: Rest
Babies sleep on their backs in their own cot, with nothing else in the cot. Older children rest on mats.
- 05Afternoon
Step 5: The yard
Out to the yard for the sandbox, the slide and the garden bed, with Wendolyn at the edge.
- 06Late afternoon
Step 6: Pickup
Families come to the door. An older brother or sister who is enrolled arrives after school and joins the group.
Outdoors, most afternoons

The yard is part of the day
The sandbox, the slide and the garden bed are a few steps from the back door. We go out most afternoons, in a sun hat in summer and in rain boots when it rains.
